Opinion on Mommy Stuff by a Non-Mommy!

I admit it I do browse through parenting magazines. I hope to be a parent someday and well, I work with children. Most of the articles are pretty mundane regular stuff you'd expect. Then there was an entire article about baby poop and what the different colors mean. That completely grossed me out. I'm really glad that I don't have to worry about anyone's poop. Would you call that beige or mustard yellow? Ewwwwwwwwwwww gross!  Now I know why most people who do not have children do not read parenting magazines. They might get so repulsed that they decide having kids is not a good idea. While I'm grossed out, I still want kids.

Some of the advertisements can be pretty comical. One contraption was called Milkies. It looks like a small Tupperware dish that you place inside your bra to collect the extra breastmilk. To me as a Non-Mommy this looks like the most absurd item. I guess its good for when you need to multi-task. You can wear them to work, you can wear them to work out. Could you wear them to the pool? No I don't think that would be a good idea. Chlorine spiked milk doesn't sound very healthy to me. Have any of you Mommies out there heard or used Milkies before? I'd love to hear some feedback!

Another item that I saw in a parenting magazine seriously made me burst out laughing. It's called Thudguard. Basically its a helmet for babies to wear when they are learning to walk. I'm all for protecting kids, but this is one step closer to just wrapping your baby in bubble wrap and packing tape. I have to give them kuddos for putting cute little doggy ears on them. It does help the cuteness factor. Yet, it kinda reminds me of the bike helmet that my older brother used to wear when he rode his moped around.
I'm really sorry to pick on this product. I don't mean any disrespect, but I just think its going a little too far into feeding the paranoia that many new mommies feel already. Again, anybody use this product? I'd love to hear feedback about this one too!

I grew up in the 80s it was a different time. Does anyone else feel the same way that I do about overall feeling now-a-days to protect your child from EVERYTHING? I've seen a parent FREAK out because their child scraped their knee up a little. I remember I scraped my knees up all the time. I would fall down on my bike or rollerskates. My mom would clean me up and send me back out.

Kids fall down, kids scrape their knee.Kids are clumsy.Kids get bloody noses. Kids really don't have to win everything. How can a child experience the sweetness of winning when they never lose? Just let kids be kids. Ok...I will now get off my Non-Mommy soapbox!

Off to go frost my bannana cupcakes! Yummy!

Disappointments, Successes, Allegies, and Ants

Disappointments

I got some bad news yesterday. Some news I really didn't want to hear. I didn't receive something that I really longed for. Something that would change my life. Something that would allow me to actually be more me. The opportunity to be less sickly. The opportunity to be more "wifey". The opportunity to have more balance. The opportunity to actually do some good. I didn't get it. While I know there is a reason, and maybe some other opportunity will come around the corner...Disappointment sucks!

Successes

This week I had a minor success that was pretty cool. A write up that I wrote and some photographs that I took were printed in my work's corporate newsletter. This newsletter is distributed around the country. Not to toot my own horn, but I'm pretty pleased!

Allergies

It's allergy season again! Stuffy nose, watery eyes, wheezing, coughing, sore throat, and hives. Excellent. I am beginning to think that I am the most unhealthy person on the planet. Between sinus infections and allergies I'm sick a lot of the time. I have a doctor's appointment coming up, so I'll have to get to the botton of all this stuff. Blah.

Ants

Yesterday at Sam's club, Michael and I had a little snack at the snack counter inside the store. I went over to the area where all the straws, lids, and condiments are kept. What should I see but about 20 or so ants crawling around on the counter. Gross. So I went over to the cashier and told him about the ants. He said he knew about them already. What? You know, but you are not taking care of the situation? Gross! Is our economy so bad that businesses don't care about keeping their facilities clean.

Thats all for now. I'm going back to sleep!

Shame Shame Target and Reality Tuesday Coffeehouse Rocks!

I was not pleased with my experience at the Target store in Florence last Sunday. I normally print my pictures at Kroger or Sam's Club. Yet, the photo machine at Sam's club was down. So I sent my pictures to Target. Here is my beef about Target.
1. I walked to the photo counter and there was nobody there.
2. I made eye contact with 7 store employees and nobody came to see if I needed help.
3. I waited for 5 minutes at the counter. Then I called Target on my cellphone to ask for help. It took another 5 minutes for someone to finally come over.
4. While the person did arrive, they didn't even seem like they knew I was there. She talked to the older couple who was working on the photo machine, but the associate just walked right past me and started working on something behind the counter.
5. I said, "Hello" twice. No response.
6. Finally I had to say "EXCUSE ME, MAY I PLEASE HAVE MY PICTURES?"
7. Then the associate said, "Oh...I didn't see you there!" (OK I am not a small person, it's kinda hard to miss me!...anyway)
8. I was overcharged. I was suppose to receive my 4X6 free.
9. The photo paper used was very thin and cheesy!
So I will NEVER use Target Photo again!
I have very little patience for bad customer service. Don't even get me going on the customer service at the Indy Children's Museum. Hmmmmmmm... :P

This creepy bird was in this creepy tree! I thought it looked very cool!

I love magnolias! So beautiful! The smell was incredible!

These beautiful are on the corner by our place!

Yummy! Yummy! Yummy! Reality Tuesday is our new favorite spot to hang out!

I drive by this place everyday on the way to work! I usually in such a hurry to get to work so I've never stopped. Michael and I were driving by it this evening and I told him that I wanted to check it out! I am so glad we did!

I had a large Grasshopper Smoothie. It's heaven in a cup! Yummy chocolate, oreo cookies, and mint! Yummy! Michael had a caramel smoothie! Loved the straws! They were really big. Just perfect. Nothing got stuck in them :D We shared a HUGE piece of oreo cheese cake! Heavinly :D

The decor was a bit kitchyand fun. It reminds me of a large comfty kitchen. There were lots of missmatched tables and chairs. I sat in a large stuffed living room chair. Calming lighting. Nice big windows that let in the evening sun!Awwwww relaxation!

Loved this place! They have live music there. They serve fairtrade coffee! The staff is soooo friendly. They support local artist! Love, Love,Love this place! They also do custom order cakes!

We will be back soon!!!!

I have been wanting this book for a while! Wow! The project in this book are awesome! Very inspiring :D

Guess what! A new part of my job is the official photographer! Yahoo! So I get to go to all the schools take pictures, interview teachers about what is happening and help with the website. I also get to blog about what is happening at the schools! How awsome!! I get to blog, take pictures, read fabulous children's books, dress in crazy costumes, and write. I do have my dream job!
